Prehistoric Sushi

Have you ever really looked at the characters of Super Mario Bros? Amongst others, you’ve got Koopa Troopas – mutant ducks with shells – and Goombas – mutant mushrooms with legs.

And then you’ve got Yoshi, a seemingly normal kawaii little dinosaur. So what’s his backstory? How did he end up in the Mushroom Kingdom as the domesticated beast of burden for a pair of Italian plumbers? Well Chefleclef – and science – have the answer.

Scientists believe the Yoshi species evolved from a fish-like creature , “Yoshus Swimdinacus”, a creature which is also the ancestor to the  Beatles Yellow Submarine.  While the submarine-branch of the family tree remained in the sea – in the land of submarines – the Yoshi branch opted to give up the endless swimming in favour of a life running, jumping and eating apples from trees.

Destiny at that point was sewn.
