221B Bag End

Is it mere coincidence that Sherlock Holmes and John Watson’s alter egos – Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman – are both in The Hobbit?

What with filming commitments and schedule conflicts (and because both enjoy good tilled earth), it was decided it would just be easier for the consulting detective and his sidekick to relocate to Middle Earth.

Bag End has been transformed into 221B Bagshot Row. Gone is the sign warning people “No admittance except on party business”, replaced instead by a  sign reading “No admittance except of detective business”. 

Sherlock and John have taken over the Shire in this clever mash-up between the BBC series Sherlock and The Hobbit / Lord of the Rings.
