Some say that as a father he has watched the Wiggles Movie more times than he has seen Star Wars. Others say he holds the Australian record for breaking the most Hills Hoists in a single afternoon (that’s a type of clothes line cum swing set for all our American counterparts). And yet others say he was originally cast as Gargamel in the recent Smurfs movie. All we know is his name is Steve Harris.

This week Tshirt Roundup caught up with pop parody designer and founder of bluebutter.com, Steve Harris AKA Zomboy.

Who are you and where are you from?

My name is Steve Harris, I live in Melbourne Australia.

What are you currently working on?

I have a number of t-shirt designs on the go in various stages of development. One of the main designs Im working on is a re-hash of a Salvador Dali Painting in a pop culture esque way. I have always loved Dali and his surrealism, so inspiring!

What inspired you to become a designer?

Like many artists, almost anything and everything in life inspires me daily to do what I do. But overall, to be an artist/illustrator I basically had no choice, I had to listen to my inner being and be what I am or else would simply be miserable.

How would you achieve world peace?

If I had the money, power and resources, I would assist in balancing out the disparity in money, power and resources so it was evenly distributed amongst everyone. Its the only way surely?

Books, movies or games? What are your favorites?

I love love love movies, always have always will. You will see a lot of movie inspiration in my designs. You will also see a lot of gaming inspiration too, but not as much. Books, I simply don’t have the time to read these days, but I wish I did.

Who would you most like to see in one of your designs?

Will Ferrell, he just cracks me up big time

You’ve got 24 hours before the world is annihilated. What do you do?

I would go to the park with my son and play soccer. Then I would go to a bar and drink a gallon of Jack Daniels and smoke a packet of cigarettes, simply because I know I wont have to wake up with a hangover or lung cancer in the morning – Yay!!

What would you be doing if you weren’t designing?

Probably biting my fingernails in pure frustration.

Tell us something about yourself that we don’t know.

I am an avid smurf collector, I have hundreds of them, and have continued collecting since I was a child.

Which design has been your most popular? Which are you most proud of?

My most popular design is ‘Dandelion Flight‘ it was one of my first. I would have to say the one I am the most proud of is ‘Robot Dogs Playing Poker‘

What advice would you offer to aspiring designers?

Just keep at it, draw everyday until your fingers bleed!
